I have completely failed to blog about my performance during NaNoWriMo, but that doesn't mean I haven't been writing. Despite all the yellow squares on my word count calendar widget in the sidebar, at 22,715 words I am actually a little ahead of the game (par for today is 21,666, and I wrote all that late last night). I am enjoying my time away from Ruby Ransome very much, although RR is still such a part of my life that I think about her and those novels regularly. Once I finish this novel -- which I am hoping to do by the end of the month, as it is actually likely a novella -- I plan on getting right back to work on revisions of Pandora's Box.
I am, however, reconsidering my plans for my NaNo novel this year.
Originally, this year's NaNo novel was supposed to be just a little something for fun, something to give me a break from Ruby Ransome but not necessarily anything I planned on doing anything with... Meaning I wasn't planning on publishing it. But as I get further into the novel, I feel like I've got something pretty good here, and it wouldn't hurt to put it out there -- perhaps as my "first" book (instead of Pandora's Box being my first published ebook). It's a fun novel, fairly in keeping with the dark themes of my other work, and might help to get my name out there before I launch my first series. Since I do want Ruby Ransome to do well, I feel like it might be a good idea to get my name out there first -- not to mention, later on it will give Ruby Ransome fans an "older" book of mine to read while they wait for the next in the series.
I am thinking of even offering a couple of excerpts of this novel and of Ruby Ransome to download for free sometime in the near future... I am full of ideas at this point! I will keep everyone posted.
Stay tuned also for some pictures of my beautiful 1920s flapper costume that I wore for the NaNoWriMo kickoff party on Halloween!
